I was in charge of two POWs who helped me with my duties after the war. One day I had to supervise a crew of POWs while they loaded a truck. I gave my gun to one of my two regular POWs and told him to make sure the others did their job. It didn't take long for my supervisor to come running out.

We slept in tents, tents, tents and more tents.

After the war, I decided to tour some of Europe while I waited for my return passage home. I had no money, but I did have two cartons of cigarettes. I took those cigarettes to the border of Switzerland and sold them for enough money to pay for my travels.
