1. Some funny things I remember about the war:

I was in charge of two POWs who helped me with my duties after the war. One day I had to supervise a crew of POWs while they loaded a truck. I gave my gun to one of my two regular POWs and told him to make sure the others did their job. It didn't take long for my supervisor to come running out.

2. My memories of the way we lived in Europe:

We slept in tents, tents, tents and more tents.

After the war, I decided to tour some of Europe while I waited for my return passage home. I had no money, but I did have two cartons of cigarettes. I took those cigarettes to the border of Switzerland and sold them for enough money to pay for my travels.

3. My most vivid memories from World War II:

I remember Patton driving up in his jeep with his two ivory-handled pistols. Everyone was relaxing. He stood up and yelled, "Hey, you sons-of-bitches! Put those helmets on!" Everyone ignored him, so he sat down and drove off.

4. My memories about the conditions of the countries I was in during the war:

During the war all of the countries were a mess as we went through Europe. But as we came back, the Germans had already started cleaning up the towns. As we crossed into France it was a different story. In France everything was still a mess.

My most vivid memories from World War II

jack_henry Tech Sergeant JACK O. HENRY - C Co.

"Battle of the Bulge is my most vivid memory of World War II. It was the largest land battle, and it involved more than a million people including some 600,000 Germans, 500,000 Americans, and 55,000 British. It was very costly in terms of both men and equipment. The cold weather was hard on the soldiers and made the delivery of supplies very difficult. We had to survive the best we could until the weather finally cleared up."
