Daniel Vincent Checchia, 94, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at Thornwald Home.
He was born February 13, 1925 in Philadelphia, to the late Salvatore and Mary (Mancini) Checchia.
Dan worked as an electrician throughout his career and was an electrical superintendent when he retired in 1980. He was also an Army Veteran. Dan served with the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion from the Normandy Beaches through Bastogne and on into the Rhineland. He was proud of this service, and he and his wife Caroline attended the Battalion‘s reunions year after year. He was also a skilled craftsman and woodworker, an avid golfer, and a lifelong Eagles Fan.
He was a loving father to his son Daniel Jr (Elizabeth), Mechanicsburg, and daughter Denise (Dennis) Orenshaw, Philadelphia, and deeply loved by his grandchildren, Steven Orenshaw and Kelly Orenshaw, and his cousins and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Caroline (Dell'Arciprete) Checchia and sisters, Anna Trommer and Phyllis Madaline.
A memorial service celebrating Daniel’s life will be held on January 5, 2020 from 10 AM to 12 PM at John F. Fluehr & Sons, 3301 Cottman Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19149
