818th Tank Destroyer Battalion 2024 Reunion in Yankton, SD2024 Hosts: Ray and Barb Goeden. Family of Joe and Ethel Goeden
We are going to welcome all to Yankton on Thursday the 11th in the meeting room on 2nd floor. Hopefully we can get 10 rooms then we get the meeting room free or it will cost $25.00 per day. Friday the 12th you are on your own part of the day. Or if you are interested in going to a museum. They give a guided tour for $5.00 per person or $5.00 per person if you want to walk threw your self. Friday evening we are planning on a meal together out at our son's camp ground. Where we can set around the campfire and get to know what everyone has been up to for the last year. Saturday morning we will need to have our meeting and then out north of Mission Hill to watch a group of guys and gals do a rendezvous. They will all be dressed in the area. And do some black powder shooting at targets and pair up to do a trappers walk. If we have time they will help all that want to shoot try to hit some fun shooting. Then we will go out to our sons. The guys and gals will do some Dutch oven cooking for us all. Everyone can hang out around the camp fire. The meals are at a cost of $6.00 to $11.00 per person thanks to all. Hoping to see a big crowd.

About The 818th Tank Destroyer BattalionIn summer 1940, fast, hard-hitting German Panzer forces caused the quick collapse of France and demonstrated the offensive capabilities of the tank. This caused a sense of urgency, and stopping of tanks became one of the most serious problems facing the United States Army. In November 1941, the War Department ordered activation of a Tank Destroyer Center and Board at Fort Meade, MD. The 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion (less companies “B” and “C”) was activated on 15 December, 1941 at Fort Sill Oklahoma. On 6 March 1942 companies “B” and “C” were activated. After extensive training at various locations, the 818th left for Belfast, North Ireland on 21 October, 1943. The 818th was composed of 600 men and officers and 36 M-10 Tank Destroyers. The 818th fought courageously and fiercely through France, Austria and Read More..
